SheandElle of Morocco – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About The Rugs

Q: What makes She&Elle of Morocco rugs unique?

A: My rugs are handwoven by women artisans in Morocco using traditional techniques passed down through generations. I make sure the pieces I choose have a touch of Scandinavian minimalism. This allows me to preserve the rich culture and ancient techniques while offering a modern aesthetic. It’s this Moroccan-Scandinavian fusion that sets my rugs apart, creating timeless pieces that bridge tradition and contemporary design.

Q: What types of rugs do you offer?

A: I offer a curated selection of Moroccan rug styles, including Beni Ourain, Boujaad, Azilal, Mrirt, and potentially Vintage rugs. Each style, though, has its own story, regional significance, and distinct aesthetic.

Q: Are your rugs authentic and handmade?

A: Yes! Every rug is handmade in Morocco by skilled women artisans. I work directly with a family-owned cooperative that partners with these local women, ensuring each piece is made with authentic craftsmanship. This cooperative is committed to ethical practices, fair wages, and sourcing sustainable materials, allowing us to cut out intermediaries.

Cultural Appreciation & Ethics

Q: Is buying a Moroccan rug considered cultural appropriation?

A: I believe in cultural appreciation, not appropriation. By purchasing directly from She&Elle of Morocco, you’re supporting women artisans, preserving traditional craftsmanship, and engaging with Moroccan culture respectfully and ethically.

Q: How do you ensure your business is ethical and respectful of Moroccan culture?

A: For me, it’s about genuine connections. With my personal roots in Morocco, I work directly with the artisan partners who create my rugs. This direct relationship means I can ensure fair wages and safe working conditions. It’s also crucial to me to offer transparent storytelling about each rug’s cultural background, celebrating its true origins. My ultimate mission is to empower these communities, not to exploit them, upholding the integrity of Moroccan craftsmanship.

Q: How can I respectfully incorporate Moroccan rugs into my home?

A: Learn about the rug’s origins, honor its craftsmanship, and share its story with others. I provide information through articles and social media content, about its makers and cultural significance, so you can appreciate and celebrate its heritage.

Sourcing & Sustainability

Q: Who makes your rugs?
